1. Multi-Site Functionality
If you have, or think you will someday have, more than one website, Magento is great. You can have 2, 5 or 10 stores and you can administer the stores from the same back-end, and to be able to manage orders and customers from the same place really makes life easier. Even though the sites are administered as one - you can still generate reports based on individual sites, or the business as a whole, whichever you need.
2. Google Integration
For ecommerce website owners, Google Adwords and Analytics are essential tools for effective marketing and monitoring of their sites performance. Magento integrates seamlessly with Analytics and Adwords.
3. Check-out Integration
Magento allows you to start small with integration for both Google Checkout and PayPal. No need to choose, use both, use the one you favor - switch as you need.
4. It’s Open Source and Free
Okay, so this is obvious - but it is still great. However, do note that there is Magento Community which is free and Magento Enterprise which is commercial. Sometimes you will see a list of Magento features and go WOW - but make sure they are features available in the community version
5. Live Currency Update
Most ecommerce platforms that feature multiple currencies require you to manually update the exchange rate. In today’s 24 by 7 Internet and with exchange rates varying daily, this is quite a pain to have to do. Magento links directly into WebServiceX and updates exchange rates automatically.
6. Spreadsheet Imports
I love the ability to import huge spreadsheets of product listings. It is especially valuable the first time you build the site and when you add a new line of products.
7. Reporting
Magento’s reporting is great with reports including breakdowns of shipping, tax, refunds and coupons. There’s also shopping cart statistics (abandoned carts, etc), product stats, customer stats, and reports detailing product reviews and search terms. You can export your reports to a CSV file for use in Microsoft Excel.
8. Search
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) functionality is built-in with tags, descriptions, very clean URLs, site navigation and clean HTML.
9. No limits on number of product or purchases
This is one of the reasons we don’t recommend store software like Yahoo Stores. The monthly fees are a burden - especially when you are ramping up a new store.
Re-Ordering Based on a Previous Order
The bet business is repeat business where the acquisition costs have already been incurred. Being able to login to your account, find a previous order, and re-order it at the click of a button is a huge aid to your customers. Making life easier for repeat customers is most profitable!
